Setting Up Welcome Messages

Welcome messages are configured per group and are sent when Metricgram detects a compatible new join event in Telegram.

Creating a Welcome Message

1. Open Messaging > Welcome messages in the dashboard.
2. If your group uses topics, choose the topic where the group welcome should be posted.
3. Write the public welcome message. You can add an image and buttons.
4. Configure the private welcome if you also want to send a direct message to the new member.
5. Save the changes.

Dynamic Variables

Use these placeholders to personalize messages:

• {FIRST_NAME} -- the new member's first name
• {USERNAME} -- the Telegram username, or - if there is none
• {ID} -- the new member's Telegram ID
• {CHAT_TITLE} -- your group or community name
• {USERNAME|FIRST_NAME} -- username if present, otherwise first name

Best Practices

• Keep it concise -- a short, friendly message works better than a wall of text
• Include group rules or a link to them
• Add a call to action -- ask new members to introduce themselves
• Use a delay of 5-10 seconds so the welcome appears after the join notification

Plan Availability

• Group welcome messages are available on all plans, including Free.
• Private welcome messages (sent directly to the new member) require the Basic plan or higher.

Important Notes

• Welcome messages are sent only once per member, even if they leave and rejoin.
• You can have multiple welcome messages active. They will be sent in sequence.
• Private welcome limitation: the private welcome is only sent when users join your private group through a Metricgram invite link, or when your group is public and Approve New Members is enabled. If they join in any other way, they will not receive it.
